Weird Reasons Why NOT Having Twitter & Facebook Make You Untrustworthy

How easily do you trust strangers? You’re raised by your parents not to trust people who you do not know, and yet as sales people we’re constantly trying to build trust with potential clients.

Things have moved on to a whole new level now with so much selling being done online. If face to face is a tough environment to get someone eating out of the palm of your hand, then it’s got to be a lot more troublesome and challenging to have any kind of impact online, right?

These days people have to rely on how well they feel they know you before making any kind of investment. And we’re not just talking cashola – time is an investment, and trust itself is something we invest in.

In research conducted by bloggers Chris Brogan and Julien Smith, they found that we are more likely to trust someone online if we can see that they interact in multiple ways.

Go On...Trust Me

One of the things I blabber about in my speeches and keynote presentations is what I call ‘Becoming 3D’ and that is literally allowing people to step that bit closer to you and get to see you from multiple angles. So yes you have a snazzy flash-bang website that tells us how great you are. But any old scammer can do that. However if the person also has a blog where they write useful, informative content and the blog has been around for a while, you will see this is not the case of a here today, gone tomorrow type con.

Then you find the person on Facebook and Twitter interacting with folks, fans saying how much they love what they do, Linkedin people recommending them and their services and they even have videos on Youtube where you get to hear their voice, and even see the face of the person you’re dealing with.

By not having these things we’re leaving these deep levels of trust behind. We can accelerate the rate at which we build our relationships, and using all of these media is a really effective way to do it. And it works!

Thanks Mr. P for fleshing out why interacting with people on the web is so important.
People want to hear your “voice” even if it is through words. That is when a real relationship develops. I start to feel I know you by consistently reading your thoughts over time. If those thoughts ring true to me I begin to trust you.
    Keep those thoughts coming!
