In the previous post we talked about the 3 types of days. The Doing Day, the Developing Day and the Day Off. If you haven’t read that, you might want to do that before reading this, this is pretty much a part 2.
The first step had been made toward taking back my life. But I needed more. I asked a friend of mine who is in my business mastermind with me about how he arranges his day. This guy is very successful and someone I respect immensely.
So now, as well as the 3 types of days I have a way I function within those days.
No longer do I bound out of bed to grab the macbook off the desk and read emails, check Facebook and get balls-deep in work. Nope. Now this is how my morning looks:
6am – Up and for a 15minute run. This is not for fitness, any fitness pro will tell you that 15mins is not enough to have an effect. The purpose of this is to raise my heart-rate and get your day started with a burst of energy.
When I get back from my run I have my morning cup of tea and breakfast. Have you noticed, I haven’t checked my email yet?
Next I write down my list of 5 jobs that I have to get completed today. This idea is from my friend, success coach Pete Wilkinson. These are the 5 critical tasks that must get done today (this is a Doing Day, obviously). Now with those written down, I can finally open my emails.
The reason you write down your tasks before opening your email is because, as you know, when you read your emails, suddenly your priorities change and they throw shit at you that you have to deal with – generally. But, as well as whatever your emails are crying to be done, you also must absolutely complete the 5 Critical Tasks before the end of the day.
BOOM! I’ll tell you now, I am getting a LOT more done. Think about it, 5 massive action tasks every work day as well as the other stuff that’s got to be done. All the while knowing that a Day Off is looming. A day when you can’t do anything at all. You’ll work slicker and harder than ever before and then, you’ll rest properly and appreciate the down time too.
